Ah...the boating life-or so it seems. Not even an overcast, blustery day could put a chill on our seafaring actors, who braved the elements (as well as a half-mile trek from location trailer to boat-plus birds who attacked the spread catering had set out for lunch) to cruise on a boat docked at Marina del Rey's Ritz-Carlton hotel, Los Angeles's playground for the rich and famous. It was all in a day's work for Amanda Detmer, Jacqui Maxwell, Ryan Reynolds and Eric Szmanda. With dozens of movie and television credits among them, these actors have been navigating their own course through Hollywood, making it look like a breeze.

Nautical-inspired stripes, primary colors and classic cuts rule surf and turf this spring. Four up-and-comers get in character and spill their own style strategies

ERIC SZMANDA

PROJECT: Playing the twisted and eccentric forensic lab tech Greg Sanders on CBS's C.S.I. He'll also be featured in the upcoming The Rules of Attraction. AGE: 26. QUOTE: "I guess I'd describe my personal style as punk meets prep. I have two friends that own and design this great label, L. Bionic, and they make a lot of my clothes. I've definitely learned since I've been in Hollywood that what you wear is what you convey, so I've started paying a lot more attention to what I wear, but I still don't believe in dress codes, dressing to impress or blatant logo advertising.
