Eric Szmanda Web is closing…
I’ve been running this fan site for almost 5 years but I really don’t have any time to maintain it. I know a lot of you will be really upset with me but it’s just too much work – and its no longer fun for me. I find that I dread having to update the site, which makes me procrastinate updating all together. Instead of it being a fun hobby, its become almost like a job.
I still adore Eric, and will continue to follow him throughout his career - the friendships I’ve formed with all of you won’t end. I appreciate everything the visitors of this site has done in the close to five years that this website has been open. I’ll never forget all the great time we’ve had but it’s time to let go.
I am open to adopting this fan site to someone who will host it on their own server or with Fansites.org – but I am REALLY picky about who I want this web site to go to. If you don’t have sources for new event photos, don’t have the ability to make screen captures of CSI and aren’t familiar with html/css and the basics of PHP (for Coppermine & SimpleMachines) than please don’t bother applying. I love this web site and will be VERY picky. I also want this to go over as smoothly as possible – if not I’m just going to let the URL expire and the content will be lost forever.
I can understand if you guys are really upset with me but this really is whats best right now.

Hi. I don’t really have the time to update but if I’m willing to help take over the hosting if someone else is interested in maintaining the content.

^^ i would have time to update, and i know how coppermine works. i also have acces to pictures. i just don’t hve the money to buy a host since i’m running another site aswell with a friend of mine.

If it could work this way…I more than likely can afford buying the site and just let someone else handle the updating and what not. Does anyone know how much it would be?

^^ it depends on the host and on what stuff you want with it (like the space for a gallery and stuff like that).
but like i said, i would be willing to update the site. i finally have my screencap programm working aswell =D

If Lindsay is willing to host it, that’s awesome. I’m cool with that. If it doesn’t work out I’m willing to host it and have Patty run it. We’ve got about 65 extra gig of bandwidth a month we’re not using and plenty of space. Either way, so long as the site doesn’t get killed off, I’m happy to help.

Patty- if you are the one to run the site, technically- you would need to let me know what all you need from a host, correct? I mean, as far as space and all that goes. Because yes, there needs to be enough room for a fairly large size gallery. If that’s how it’ll go, then you could just let me know some prices you find out and we could come to some sort of agreement. You know? Worse case- Laura seems to be able to. Let’s just figure this thing out…because I’m with Laura- I do not want to see this site go down!

Is it really nessecery to move host ? can’t we stick on this one ? if it still has lots of space ?
going to another host isn’t easy, i’ve been true that recently and it was a pain.
So i think it would be better if we just keep the host how it is now, if that is possible offcourse.

Oh yeah, sure. That probably is the easiest thing to do, until we see it’s a problem (ex. running out of space). I guess we’ll see what happens, huh?

yea i think thats the best thing to do, Eric isn’t really a busy person so you won’t really run out of space easy =P so keeping it how it is now would be the easiest thing to do.

Haha! Aww! That’s true though. Super busy or not- Eric needs an awesome fan website and I truly think this is it. That sounds good to me though, we’ll see what the owner thinks and go from there.

If the owner is willing to switch the ownership and name on the payment, that makes things easier for those who want to take it over.
I’d just move it over to my server because it would make it easier on my end if that was a solution that you were considering.

I’m game for whatever, honestly. I almost hate to admit it, but it’s true- I know a good deal about computers/technology, but I don’t really know much about running a website. I was moreso just offering to be the money that keeps this thing running. If that makes sense? So you’ll have to forgive me if I’m a bit on the slow side of the whole running the site deal. Haha.

i’ve been running a site for half a year now with a friend, and i’ve lots of friends who know a lot about running a website, so i’ve we get troubel i got always go to them for help
if you know how to move the site to your server easy Laura, then that would be oke aswell. i just have had lots of problems with the other website so thats why i rather not do it, but if you know how to dan thats oke for me aswell

Starshine…i understand your reasons and personaly I’m not angry against you or anything like that…i just want the site to continue so I hope someone else can take it in charge and ill be happy to help in anyway to keep the site alive.Just let me know!

I want to thanks whoever Will keep this website alive, I’m one of those who still miss the erockster community and I really don’t want to lose the only one good Eric Szmanda fan page.
So thank you for keeping this page alive…
Just send us the news about what happend & what Will happend in close future.

Starshine, I totally understand your dilemma. Things get busy and time gets away from you. I personally hope that someone who cares about this site as much as you and we all do will take over and keep it alive. Without a doubt it is the BEST Eric site out there and it would be a tragedy to let it die. Everyone here in the community is supportive of your decision. Just tell us what you need us to do to keep it going, we’re all behind you. I wish that I had the skills and knowledge (not to mention funds and time) to help run things. Sadly, I do not. So, if one of the above volunteers is willing and able to step up, I applaud you for wanting to support not only Eric’s career but also to preserve the fellowship of his fans.

Maybe us girls can ban together and keep the site going?? I know a little of everything but not like you Star so I would need help…But I think it would be an amazing idea if a group of us devoties kept the site going

Patty: It is more of a case of having an awesome tech guy handling Fan History’s back end who could move the project over pretty easily if no one else can host it. It would just require that some one else actively update it. If you and the current owner can drop me an e-mail to see about moving forward with some sort of effort to save it, that might be good. My e-mail is laura[at]fanhistory[dot]com. Other than hosting, I can’t see myself doing much.

you have to make caps on your own, you got programms for that. and for pictures there are certain websites, and plain google
(i posted caps from last week ep on the forum so you can go there for those)
but will find a way to keep something going on about Eric so don’t worry
